New Hero: Neriss, Abyss Whisperer
LORE
Before his disappearance, Neriss was a legend among naval engineers — a visionary obsessed with deep-sea propulsion systems and energy containment fields. When the enigmatic Rift Zero was discovered — a tear in the ocean floor deeper than the Mariana Trench and invisible to sonar. Neriss was chosen to lead the first manned descent.
The expedition never returned.
Months later, a derelict submersible drifted onto a Shoremen patrol route. Inside, the crew was gone, and the internal walls were covered in strange etchings — spiraling glyphs that seemed to pulse with a cold hum. Neriss was found alone in the cockpit. Alive. Unharmed. But… altered.
He no longer blinked. His skin was pallid, waterlogged. His eyes no longer reflected light… they absorbed it, as if trying to remember what they had seen in the dark.
Neriss spoke little. When he did, it was in fragments. Phrases in lost languages. Coordinates that pointed to impossible locations. Names no one had ever heard.
Whatever he had encountered in the rift had broken something fundamental inside him. Or perhaps, it replaced something.
The Shoremen, ever opportunistic, saw his transformation as a gift. They reforged him into a living weapon — a Void-wielding sentinel who could shroud battlefields in corrosive mist, sap strength from his enemies, and whisper dread into the minds of those nearby. Where he walks, radios distort, lights flicker, and the air grows heavy with brine.
But not all the Shoremen trust him. Some claim they’ve heard him speaking when alone — not to himself, but to something. Some swear he knows when death is near, pausing mid-fight to listen. And those he kills don’t just die, their turns black as emptiness has consumed them. As if it was claimed.
Rumors spread that each soul he drains brings him closer to whatever calls from the abyss. Not everyone believes Neriss is still human. And some fear he was never alone when he came back.
