Lin Jie Zhu grew up inside the facilities of the Magistrate, surrounded from an early age by the organization’s rigid discipline and cold logic. While most around her learned to prioritize efficiency and power above all else, she followed a different path. From a young age, she showed an unusual dedication to caring for others, which naturally led her to the Medical Department.
During her formative years, she built deep bonds with two individuals who would shape her future.
The first was Yuu, a prodigy slightly younger. Where the Magistrate prized restraint and discipline, Yuu was the opposite—bright, energetic, and often moving faster than her own explanations. Many quietly described her as having the air of a “crazy scientist,” though her results were impossible to ignore.
Fascinated by bioengineering and combat support, Yuu developed an experimental system of technological needles capable of accelerating regeneration and stabilizing agents in the field. Within the Magistrate, the project was officially designated Regen Needles, a clinical name that reflected the organization’s pragmatic mindset.
The third member of their trio was Kai, a special operations trainee within the Magistrate. Calm, observant, and exceptionally skilled, he quickly distinguished himself through mastery of multiple weapons—most notably his bow and arrow.
It was Kai who began calling Lin Jie Zhu by a nickname only he used since the first day they met:
Liyan: “crystalline beauty.”
To him, the name matched the way she moved through the medical wing: precise, delicate, yet unwavering under pressure. Over time, the nickname became a quiet habit between them.
As the years passed, Lin Jie Zhu established herself as an exceptional medic. Unlike many within the Magistrate, she refused to see soldiers as disposable assets. Her calm and protective demeanor led troops to quietly refer to her as:
“The Magistrate’s Mother.”
Watching her increasingly exposed role, Kai grew concerned.
He knew that in real combat zones, medical skill alone would not be enough to keep her safe.
So, on his own initiative, Kai began secretly training her in the use of the bow—not to turn her into a soldier, but to ensure she could defend herself if he was ever not there.
What began as defensive training soon took an unexpected turn.
During one practice session, Lin Jie Zhu had an unusual idea: adapt Yuu’s Regen Needles to be fired using Kai’s bow. After multiple improvised adjustments and careful testing, she managed to stabilize the delivery.
The result surprised even Kai.
The needles maintained their precision at long range and, upon impact, still triggered their regenerative protocols. For the first time, Lin Jie Zhu could heal allies directly on the battlefield.
Even Yuu—who was rarely impressed by anything—was visibly excited by the breakthrough.
What was meant to be a simple survival skill had, through Lin Jie Zhu’s creativity, become a new form of tactical support.

The lack of answers did not convince Lin Jie Zhu.
Determined to uncover the truth, she began quietly investigating internal movements and classified records. But she knew she could not do this openly—especially as a high-ranking authority within the Magistrate itself.
So she made a careful decision.
To operate outside official channels, she began using the name Kai had given her years ago:
Liyan
Since then, Lin Jie Zhu has maintained her position as Chief of the Medical Department, continuing to save lives within the Magistrate’s war machine.
But in the shadows, under the name Liyan, she follows every lead, every rumor, every fragment of truth.
Because this time… there is one life she refuses to lose.
