10 Star Heroes Fragments?

What happens when you receive more fragments for a hero you’ve already gotten to 10 stars? Ive heard varying answers and would just like a clear one please.

My current situation is I’ve been throwing everything I receive from my gauntlet runs into dogface because I was led to believe once I have him maxed I can get elemental fragments by still buying him is this the case? I’ve also been told it’s only mech fragments can anyone confirm this for me please?

According to the game tips, they get converted to elemental fragments (not universal, so, with Dogface, you should get fragments that you can use on ANY mech hero, but not energy or bio), but no idea. My strongest hero is 5 stars

I have 10 stars, they turn into elemental.
